AI, law, and State Power

This program examines how law and artificial intelligence co-constitute one another — how legal instruments authorize and legitimate algorithmic systems, and how those systems in turn operationalize, extend, and at times destabilize the legal categories that govern them. The empirical center of gravity is the Middle East and North Africa, with sustained attention to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt as sites where authoritarian and hybrid governance is being reorganized around AI-enabled infrastructure.
